Books Kinokuniya welcomed local director Glen Goei for the launch of the DVD box set which includes both his first and second feature films, Forever Fever and The Blue Mansion on Sunday, 5th June 2011, attracting a niche group of supporters of locally-made films. Hosted by local actress Tan Kheng Hua and conducted in an interview style, the host and director Glen Goei chatted in an articulate and friendly manner. Both of them also displayed the close chemistry between friends during the event, especially when the host described anecdotal experiences of how Glen Goei was like at film sets – almost no holds barred. During the launch, Tan Kheng Hua also posted Glen Goei with questions pertaining to his inspirations of creating both Forever Fever and The Blue Mansion. In a relatively detailed and intimate discussion, the director spoke passionately and honestly about how the two films were mirror images of his understanding and experiences of Singapore in the 1970s and of the country in a modern day context. The host, who was also a cast member of The Blue Mansion, also contributed to the discussion with her comments about working with the director. Ultimately, while the director’s film Forever Fever and the DVD format of it was already released some years back, genuinely interested customers still stayed around to show their support for the event, and subsequently also purchased copies of the newly launched DVD box set. |
