Books Kinokuniya welcomed Mr. Heang Chhor, global consulting firm McKinsey & Company’s senior partner and executive editor of Reimagining Japan: The Quest for A Future That Works, on Saturday, 22nd October as he came by our main store to launch and promote the book, which includes a collection of both Japanese and international contributors who share their perspectives on Japan. During the comprehensive and engaging session, Heang Chhor shared with an attentive audience the aim of publishing Reimagining Japan – McKinsey invited over eighty men and women from around the world to contemplate the challenges and opportunities facing Japan in light of the Great Tohoku Earthquake that struck the country in March this year. He elaborated that the book contained thought-provoking and sometimes controversial ideas on Japan’s road to recovery from the series of misfortunes that were sparked by the earthquake, and further spoke about other challenges that the country currently faces, including the Japanese ‘change-resistant’ mentality. Through these topics, Heang Chhor was able to draw more customers’ attention to stay on and participate in the event, which also included a Question-and-Answer session on the topic. Towards the end of the session, Books Kinokuniya’s Group Managing Director Mr. Hiroshi Sogo also came up to share his perspectives on the Japanese media and education system in the present age and posted some questions on them. Following that, Heang Chhor then shared with the audience his good experiences and sentiments of living in Japan before concluding the talk. Before the event ended, several customers also took the opportunity to purchase the book and get it signed by the executive editor to show their support for Japan. |
