Grab this opportunity to meet up with Philip Jeyaretnam, author of the READ! Singapore Title 2010 – Raffles Place Ragtime, as he speaks to us at Kinokuniya Singapore Main Store on 14th August 2010, Saturday, at 3.00pm!
READ! Singapore is a nation-wide reading initiative launched by the National Library Board in 2005. This year, Raffles Place Ragtime was chosen as the READ! Singapore Title of the year from a tally of five competing English titles. This book examines the complex issues of ambition, deception and love amidst the high-speed hustle of Singapore’s financial district and high society, and explores the implications of hard-nosed material aspirations at the level of individual experience and its ensuing emotional and psychological consequences. Philip Jeyaretnam is a lawyer and the younger son of the late veteran Singaporean opposition politician J.B. Jeyaretnam and Margaret Walker. Philip was the Cultural Medallion Award Winner for Young Artist in 1993 and was presented with the Southeast Asia Write Award in 2003. He is also the author of First Loves, first released back in 1987. |
